Civil3d Profile Band Text Override (without exploding)

No matter how hard a programmer tries they will never create a program that satisfies everyone all of the time. However
if the software designer/programmer adds overrides to allow people to achieve what they want without taking a step backwards that is always appreciated.

I case in point is the “EditlabelText” command that was added in 2009 from memory. Just type the command and select the
band text you want to change or ctrl click the label and then release everything and press the right mouse button to
see the option in your shortcut menu. The second method only works for some text objects.

The command lets you override most band text with whatever you like without exploding the ProfileView. The one downside of the method is if you regenerate
the ProfileView the overrides are removed.

ProfileView Major and Minor Interval Greyed Out

Just scratching my head for a bit why were the Major and Minor Intervals greyed out
because the “Match ProfileView Gridline Spacing Option” was ticked on at the bottom of the dialog
always gets me.

Offsetting Profiles or Projected Featurelines in ProfileViews

You cannot offset profiles or projected featureline’s in profileviews (that I know of) which is a real pain, especially when you are wanting to check ground cover above existing services to your design profile or surface. To get round this you can
1. Copy the design profile and then raise or lower the new profile by the required cover depth. The downside of this method is that the copy of the profile is not dynamically linked to the first profile so if you update the profile the copy does not up date.
or
2. Use featureline. Most likely the as built services are surveyed as a 3dpolyline string or featureline’s you can make copy the featureline’s to a new site called offset and then rise of lower the new featureline the required cover.
